Medical Management Systems is committed to helping the healthcare sector become more environmentally friendly by saving energy, and cutting down on waste.

Energy usage in healthcare should not be underestimated: for example NHS healthcare facilities spend £400 million annually on energy - resulting in a net emission of around one million tonnes of carbon, and five per cent of all the UK’s emissions from road transport are attributable to NHS-related journeys.

A hosted practice management system such as Med+DBase enables healthcare businesses to cut down on wasted resources and reduce their carbon footprint by removing their need for IT equipment such as servers, and helping to cut down on paper, ink and electricity usage.

Environmentally damaging production, disposal and ongoing use of energy-guzzling servers is reduced dramatically by a hosted healthcare system such as Med+DBase, which stores multiple practices’ data on the same servers, based on an economy of scale principle.

For example, if 100 clinics moved from individual servers to Med+DBase, their CO₂ emissions could be reduced by 91%*. Multiply this by the tens of thousands of healthcare providers in the UK and the potential for a reduction in carbon emissions is enormous.

Med+DBase is also capable of linking practices with each other as well as with labs, accountants and other partners, greatly reducing the energy expended in printing, posting, faxing, telephone & email communication, and even meetings, as data sharing and exchange between users on Med+DBase is online and instant.
