During a consultation the doctor can access the patient record through our online practice management package, Med+DBase, and then take the laptop home to type up any notes straight into the system.
The staff can check appointments and patient notes from home if they need to and as all patient information and schedules are electronic using such a system, paper files are kept to a minimum. When paperwork does come in, it is scanned and saved and the original shredded. This saves money on costly paper storage and admin time and is a much safer way of doing things.
I have seen real improvements in processes and profits using technology like Med+DBase: I think that soon people will realise this is the only way to go, and that it’s particularly useful for “floating” practices where doctors are armed with just a laptop and a mobile to stay in touch with colleagues, secretaries, patients and online records.”
